Quimper French Faience J C Taburet Plaque

Jean Claude Taburet opened his Design Atelier in 1984, having previously worked for the Hubaudiere and Keraluc faienceries. This stunning large and heavy piece is typical of his work. The strikingly colourful pattern in relief is in shades of red, orange, and turquoise on indigo blue. This heart-shaped plaque, designed to be flat rather than hung, is in very good condition, with just a few rubs to the surface due to wear. Signed J C Taburet on the back.

Desvres Fourmaintraux Houzel Seagull Wall Pocket

This Desvres wall pocket is of a seagull in flight, decorated with floral sprays, a butterfly and the Arms of Brittany. It is marked on the back in manganese 'Saint-Quay-Portrieux' and is probably by the Fourmaintraux- Houzel faiencerie, c1905-20. It is in very good bright condition, with only small rubs to the wing and above the restuck glass eye and with a flake of enamel loss to the beak.

Desvres Fourmaintraux Freres Auvergne Plate

This Desvres early piece is an attractively painted, heavily potted plate with a deep base rim, pierced for hanging. The central picture of a lady in regional dress, probably from the Auvergne, is very carefully painted. The plate is marked in manganese with the 'FF' signature, and dates from 1879-87. Apart from some rim glaze skips, it is in excellent, undamaged condition.

HB Quimper Odetta Mugs

These two Odetta mugs were part of a 'service a cidre', and date from the 1930's. Each is marked 'HB Quimper France 206. 1086', and carries the painter's marks ( . : ). The condition is very good, with just one fleabite to the base rim of one mug.

HB Quimper One-Handled Bowl & Saucer

This unusual Quimper pair is decorated 'a la touche' in green, blue and rust-red and dates from the 1930's. The bowl has an impressed '4' and 'Quimper -..-' painted in red on the base. The matching saucer is unmarked, and has 'stilt' marks to the rear, indicating an early piece. The condition of the saucer is excellent; the bowl has a small section of glaze loss to the rim and a professional repair to a rim chip, but is otherwise in good, bright condition.

Malicorne Nevers Style Small Plate

A small Malicorne plate with a central design of flowers (?coltsfoot) and with small sprigs on the wide border. This design, with its pleasing soft colours is illustrated in 'Les Faiences de Malicorne' by Deschang and Kervella where it is described as a copy of 18C Nevers, from the early 20C Pouplard Beatrix faiencerie. This plate is in excellent undamaged condition and is unmarked.

Malicorne Octagonal Rouen Pattern Lobed Dish

This Malicorne Rouen pattern dish is decorated in blues and yellows on a pinkish-cream base, with the Brittany Arms in the centre, and bows and swags around the lobed edge. It is marked on the base with 'PBx' in manganese, and dates from the early 20th.C. The overall condition is very good, and there have been careful repairs to some small chips on the edges of three of the lobes of the rim. There are no cracks or other restoration.

Malicorne Pouplard Beatrix 'Blue Flowers' Plate

This substantial Malicorne plate is decorated with a centre-piece of blue-toned flowers, surrounded by typical Pouplard Beatrix border garlands, on a creamy glaze base with the reddish clay showing through. It is unmarked and dates from the period 1900-40. The plate has the usual Malicorne crazing and is in excellent condition, with just one fleabite to the rim.

Malicorne Provincial Figure Large Plate n.Quimper

This very attractive plate from a Malicorne series features a provincial woman, wearing an unusual headress, within a flower and leaf garlended border. The decoration is absolutely typical of Malicorne, although this plate is not marked, and dates from the first quarter of the 20th.C. It is in excellent condition, with only minor glaze flaws to the reverse.

Desvres Masse Freres Faience Rafraichissoir

This large Mase Freres two-handled castellated bowl was designed to cool wine glasses on ice, whilst holding their stems. The multi-coloured floral design is very well executed, and the base bears the early 1950's monogram 'MF'. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or hairlines.

Desvres Geo Martel Pierced Bowl

This large pierced oval bowl with a traditional 'coq' motif is from the Geo Martel Faiencerie, and dates from c2000, not long before the factory closed. The design is in bright polychrome colours on clear white. The bowl is marked on the base 'Decor Rouen Fait Main Geo Martel France APH 1X' and is in excellent unused and undamaged condition.

Desvres Geo.Martel St.Malo Vase

This strongly and colourfully decorated vase bears the crest of St.Malo, together with Fleurs-de-Lys and ermine tails. It is marked 'GM' and'1927' on the base in blue, dating the vase to the period 1922-40. The condition is very good, with only a slight loss of enamel to the outer top rim, and a fleabite and some crazing to the insde rim. These minor faults do not spoil the appearance of this nice piece.

Desvres French Faience Fourmaintraux & Delassus Gryphon Chamberstick

This Desvres heavy chamberstick is shaped like a mythical beast, and has Delft-style blue-and-white decoration. It is marked to the base in blue with the Fourmaintraux & Delassus signature, and dates from the period 1930-35. It has seen use, and although it has a number of rubs to the candle-holder rim, and small amounts of enamel loss to other points of the piece, it remains a very unusual and attractive piece.

HB Quimper 1930's Renaud Fisherman Plate and Mug

This eye-catching HB Quimper plate, dating from c1930, is decorated in low relief to the design of Georges Renaud, featuring a working fisherman, with a sea shore behind. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or hairlines; slight dullness to raised parts, due to usage, and two small flakes of enamel missing from the rim. It is marked 'HB Quimper' and '1068', together with a painter's mark, all in black, and dates from c1930. The mug is without decoration other than a brown border, bears the same marks except for the painter's mark, and is in excellent condition.

HB Quimper 1930's Renaud Basket Seller Plate and Mug

Another eye-catching Renaud designed HB Quimper plate, with a female basket-seller against a village background. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or hairlines; one tiny flake of enamel is missing from the woman's apron. It is marked 'HB Quimper' and '1068', together with a painter's mark, all in black, and dates from c1930. The mug's only decoration is a brown border; it bears the same marks, other than the painter's mark, and is in excellent condition.

HB Croisillee Pattern Quimper Plate

This carefully painted heavy Quimper plate has a geomtric pattern in gentle colours of blue, green and red, with banding in blue, yellow and manganese. The mark 'HB' in blue on the back,dates the plate to the period 1883-1904. The condition of the plate is excellent, despite slight surface firing flaws. The reverse has the customary 'stilt' marks, an indicator of its age.

Malicorne Quimper Style Double Wall Pocket

This charming little double wall pocket is not Quimper but is in the softer colours of Malicorne. It displays a couple in regional costumes and also has fleur-de-lys decoration. It is marked 'PBx' to the reverse in manganese, and probaly dates from the first quarter of the 20th.C. It is in very good condition, with only a firing flaw and two small chips to the hanging loop, and small rubs to the bottom points. These small flaws do not diminish the attractiveness of this piece.

Malicorne 'Petite Bretonne' Oval Platter n.Quimper

This Malicorne oval platter has a variation on a Quimper design, featuring a Bretonne centrally, with umbrella, garlanded wirh floral swags om the border. The design is typical of Pouplard Beatrix, and the platter is marked as such, with 'PBx' in manganese on the base, dating the platter to c1900. It is in very good condition, with just one small area of overpainting (of rubs) on the edge, and no chips or cracks.

Malicorne 'Quimper Copy' Oval Platter

A sensitively painted Malicorne version of a 'Petit Breton' in a landscape surrounded by a border decorated with the flower garland typical of the Pouplard Beatrix factory, c 1920. This oval platter is unmarked and in very good condition, with some rim rubs and a small chip left by an earlier plate hanger.

An unusually decorated sabot in shades of orange, green and black and featuring a female profile with a deco straw hat. This 1930's piece is marked to the base with 'Menton', '266' and a painter's mark of a slashed circle, all in black. It is in excellent, undamaged condition.
