Upchurch Pottery Large Four-Lobed Vase

This very handsome large Upchurch 'Melon' lobed vase has a pronounced everted rim and a matt glaze, in a complex colour mix of grey and lilac-blue on pink and buff. The gradations of splashed colours produce a very pleasing effect. The base bears the impressed mark 'UPCHURCH' and '5.64, 5.65' painted in black. This heavy piece, probably dating from the mid-1920's, is in excellent condition, with only a few of the usual firing glaze 'pops'.

Upchurch Pottery Blue Two Handled Vase

A nice traditional Upchurch vase, with a full-bellied shape and two handles with an unusual right-twist where they join the body. The glaze is shiny, in tones of blue flecked with brown. The vase has UPCHURCH stamped twice on the base, and apart from the usual glaze skips and pops, is in excellent undamaged condition.

Two Upchurch Candle Holders

These two candle holders are designed for very slim candles!. They are in a thick pink-toned glaze on a brown clay body, and probably date from post 1950. Both are stamped 'Upchurch' on the base, and are in excellent condition, without fault.

Upchurch Pottery Small Three-Footed Vase

This early heavy little Upchurch vase, glazed in matt streaky green, sits squarely on three small feet. The neck rim has a narrow, circling, decorative ridge. The vase is stamped 'UPCHURCH' to the base. It is in excellent condition, apart from a tiny chip on one foot and some glaze 'pitting' from the firing.

C.H.Brannam Small Blue Slip-Decorated Vase

This pretty little Brannam vase is decorated with 'jewelled' applied slip in white, black and blue, and an incised 'fern' like pattern. It bears the impressed mark 'C.H.BRANNAM Ltd BARNSTAPLE' mainly in small, neat capitals, and dates from c1914-30. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.

Longpark Torquay Tormohun Lamp Tile

This interesting Scandy pattern lamp tile bears the motto: 'O list to me ye ladies fair And when ye wish to curl your hair For the safety of this domicile Pray place your lamp upon this tile.'
The mark on the unglazed terracotta base is 'TORMOHUN WARE LONGPARK TORQUAY', dating the tile to c1903-14. The condition is generally very good, and the only damage is to the blue border, with a few edge abrasions and a loss of enamel to two corners.

Ashtead Pottery Jade Green Milk Jug

This very neat well-designed milk jug in jade green bears the usual 'Ashtead Potters' mark to the base, together with the black painted marks 'J69' and 'V', identifying the shape and colour. It is in beautiful condition apart from one shallow chip to the foot rim, shown in the blow-up picture.

Dicker Ware Miniature Tankard

This small tankard, in typical Dicker shape with a deep handle, is decorated in a glossy green slip with the base clay colour showing on rims and edges. The piece has a paper label on the base marked 'Dicker Ware England' in black on white, dating it to the period 1935-40. It is in excellent condition, with just one small 'blow hole' at the top of the handle, occurring in manufacture.

Bernard Moore Rare Flambe Red Vase

This lovely early 20thC. Bernard Moore baluster-shaped vase is perfectly potted and in beautiful ccondition, with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There are a few slight scratches to the surface, which has a flambe glaze shading from deep to paler reds. The base bears the disinctive 'BERNARD MOORE' underglaze mark, and the vase dates from the period 1905-15.

Saunders Isle of Wight Tall Vase

This typically-shaped Saunders Vase, with a long neck widening into a broader body, is decorated in blue-green silky glaze with undertones of pink, and dates from the period 1933-38. It has the printed circular mark in purple on the base, together with 'M/191/4'. It is in excellent condition, without fault.

Candy Wescontree Ware Vase

This interesting globular-shaped vase is very reminiscent of the earlier Mintons Astra Ware, with a complex blue and green splashed glaze. However, it has an indistinct black rubber stamp, with 'CANDY' across the centre, dating the piece to c1947-60. Apart from two small dull patches in the glaze, this vase is in excellent undamaged condition.

Royal Lancastrian Octagonal High Shouldered Vase

This handsome Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian octagonal vase is decorated with a mottled turquoise and green eggshell glaze over a pale green base colour. It bears the impressed marks to the base 'ROYAL LANCASTRIAN' 'MADE IN ENGLAND' and '2397', together with the Tudor Rose factory mark. It is in excellent, undamaged condition.

Scottish Methven Pottery Transfer Print Jugs

These three jugs from the D Methven & Sons Pottery in Fife are each decorated with lustre transfer prints of traditional Scottish street sellers: 'Caller Herrin' and 'Caller Ou'. The jugs date from 1860 to 1900, and although not marked, can be identified from 'Nine Potteries in Kirkcaldy' by J Bell. The overall condition of all three jugs is good, with very good decoration to each. Individual faults to each are: largest jug - chip to base,2 small hairlines; middle size jug - chip to base,2 small hairlines from rim; smallest jug - good body, old crack to handle. The set of three display well and form a nice collection.

Chelsea Pottery Large Footed Dish

This very colourful and substantial footed dish has a typical Chelsea design of flowers: daisies and phlox, against a leafy background. The design is signed 'HL' (Hazel Livy ?), and has a barely decipherable Chelsea mark on the base. It would probably have had a paper label on the back. This very heavy piece has perforated feet, which would enable it to be hung for display. Because of its weight and size, it is only available to UK buyers. It is in excellent undamaged condition.

Janice Tchalenko Design Dartington Mug

This interesting Dartington Pottery mug is decorated in soft mauves and yellow on pale grey with a design by Janice Tchalenko for 'Next Interior' of 1986. It bears the Dart pottery impressed mark to its base and is in perfect condition, with no faults.

Henry Hammond Stoneware Handled Dish

This sturdily potted small dish, with a ribbed handle and a slope-sided bowl, is a functional piece of studio pottery for culinary use. It is decorated in a brown slip, which pales to grey-blue at the edges and in the bowl. It is clearly marked with the potter's personal stamp, and probably dates from the 1950's. It is in excellent condition, with no faults.

Jim Malone Large Cut-sided Bowl

A magnificent stoneware bowl from the very highly regarded Jim Malone. The silver birch and ash glazes pool over the external faceting and incised decoration; the inside is smooth, with a shiny base. The bowl is stamped 'A' (Ainstable) and 'JM' on the foot, and dates from 1984-2000. It is in excellent condition. A very large and satisfying piece, but because of both its size and weight, collection would be necessary.

Dora Billington Rare Early Studio Pottery Large Bowl

A large and strikingly decorated bowl by Dora Billington, one of the earliest English women studio potters, working from c1915-1955. She is now best known for her teaching and her books on the technique of pottery. This heavy bowl is decorated in off-white and blue slips, with 'free painting' on the inside in blues and manganese grey. It stands on a deep base rim and has the potter's impressed mark on the base, part obscured by the glaze. The condition of the bowl is very good with the exception of one inside 1.5cm. wide rim chip.

Simon Leach Studio Raku Yunomi

This Simon Leach pot is a piece of some simplicity, covered in a cream slip which deepens to yellow on the inside. The only decoration is two small areas of combing. The raku footed unomi is clearly marked with 'SL'and 'SPAIN' on the blackened base, and dates from the 1990's. The condition is excellent.

David Leach Lowerdown Pottery Tenmoku Lidded Box

This small tenmoku glazed, beautifully fitting box with an inset glazed well in both base and top, is from David Leach's Lowerdown pottery and bears the impressed Lowerdown mark. Condition: two corners on the lid, and one on the base top, have tiny rubs, and there has been a small repair on one corner of the top. Despite this, it remains a most attractive piece.
